Arctic Monkeys Cornerstone

I mean, if you are going to do the whole pining-over-lost-love thing that pop is so enamoured of, then you need look no further than Cornerstone, by the Arctic Monkeys. For me, it has all the right ingredients for the kind of record that will leave you feeling moved, nostalgic and just a tad confused over whether you've just heard a song lamenting the one who got away (or maybe even died) or the rantings of an obsessed loon who just needs to move on.

The secret, I think, is behind Alex Turner's admission: "I saw it as a challenge to write something in a major key, but that wasn't cheesy." He pulls it off with aplomb- not a whiff of cheddar in sight.
